Maria Luiza Gastal (co-chair)

Co-chair, Malu Gastal is psychoanalyst certified by the Virgínia Leone Bicudo Institute, member of the Brasília Psychoanalysis Society and professor at the institute, practicing psychoanalytic consulting. She is the co-coordinator, together with Carlos Pires Leal, of the Psychoanalysis, Climate, and Life Commission of the Brazilian Federation of Psychoanalysis - FEBRAPSI. Biologist, PhD in Ecology from the University of Brasília (UnB), and retired professor from UnB. Member of the Climate Committee of the International Psychoanalytical Association, since 2019, she has written several papers on climate and psychoanalysis.

Luc Magnenat (co-chair)

Co-Chair, Luc Magnenat is a training member and supervisor of the Swiss Psychoanalytic Society. He has published two books (in French) on psychoanalysis and the environmental crisis: The Environmental Crisis on the Couch in 2019 (In Press, Paris) and Resisting the Environmental Crisis in 2026 (In Press, Paris). He is the laureate of the 2023 Climate Award granted by the International Psychoanalytical Association.

Lynne Zeavin

Dr. Lynne Zeavin is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychoanalyst in full time practice in New York City. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute where she chairs the curriculum committee. An Associate Editor of JAPA, she has written on a variety of topics exploring female sexuality and the maternal, the environmental crisis, and various aspects of Kleinian theory.

Dr. Zeavin is a founder of Second Story, a non-institutional psychoanalytic space in New York City, and a founding member of the Psychosocial Foundation. Most recently, she was the Visiting Professor at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, where she gave Grand Rounds to the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry titled, Slow Violence, Climate Denial and the Erosion of the Background of Safety. She is the co-editor with Donald Moss of Hating Abhoring and Wishing to Destroy: Psychoanalytic Essays on the Contemporary Moment (2022); With Climate in Mind (with Sally Weintrobe, Dec 2025) and a new book co-edited with Shelley Nathans, Analyzing
Abortion, Global Perspectives on the Attack on Reproductive Justice due in Sept 2027.

Delaram Habibi-Kohlen

Mrs Delaram Habibi-Kohlen is a psychologist, psychoanalyst and training analyst in private practice in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. She is a member of the DPV, DGPT and IPA.Her publications are about societal and political issues, and microprocesses in transference and countertransference. In Germany, she is one of the main psychoanalytical authors who write about the climate catastrophe.

Mary-Anne Smith

Mary-Anne is a clinical psychologist, analyst and training analyst. Member of the South African Psychoanalytical Association. She is currently president of the South African Psychoanalytical Association and president of the South African Psychoanalytical Initiative (psychotherapy organisation).

Mary-Anne had a special interest in climate, race and the way in which the external world shapes our internal processes.

Consultants

Alexandre Martins (IPSO representative)

A Clinical and Health Psychologist since 2003, trained at ISPA – Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada, in Lisbon, Alexandre Martins has developed his professional career across social institutions dedicated to childhood and youth. His work has included both clinical practice and pedagogical leadership roles within multidisciplinary teams, alongside a sustained private practice.

Since 2019, as a Candidate Member of the Portuguese Psychoanalytic Society (Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicanálise, SPP), his clinical work has also included psychoanalytic practice, with an exclusive focus on clinical and psychoanalytic work. He has also published two articles in the field of psychoanalysis within the context of candidate publications associated with psychoanalytic societies.

Valerie Curen (Consultant)

Valerie Curen is psychoanalyst at the British Psychoanalytical Society (BPaS), Child Psychotherapist (ACP) and Parent Infant Psychotherapist. She leads the Lead Parent-Infant Psychotherapist in perinatal mental health services at CNWL NHS Trust, and works in private practice as well as teaching in the UK and internationally. She is a member of the EPF Climate Committee.

Sally Wintrobe

Sally Weintrobe (Consultant)

Sally Weintrobe is a Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society. She is the Founder and the Past-Chair (2021-25) of the Climate Committee of the International Psychoanalytical Association. Her books on climate include: ed. Engaging with Climate Change: Psychoanalytic and Interdisciplinary Perspectives (2012). London: Routledge; Psychological Roots of the Climate Crisis: Neoliberal Exceptionalism and the Culture of Uncare   (2021). New York and London: Bloomsbury and, co-edited with Lynne Zeavin, With Climate in Mind: Psychoanalysts Reflections on Climate Breakdown (Routledge), (2025). Sally Weintrobe is the laureate of the 2021 IPA Climate Award.

Past Members

Davide Rosso

Davide is Psychologist, Child Psychotherapist, and IPA Psychoanalyst with clinical practice since 1995 at his Turin studio. Associate member of the Italian Psychoanalytic Society and member of the International Psychoanalytical Association. He holds advanced degrees in Child Psychotherapy, Childhood Observation according to the Tavistock Model, and Ethno Infant Observation, with a three-year master's in the Rorschach test. His professional experience includes consultancy for IL NODO Group and ENGiM, work in a children's hospital adolescent ward, adjunct professorship, and supervision at multiple therapeutic communities.

He is President of the Dream Foundation Committee, member of the IPA climate committee from 2019 to 2024, and has published numerous clinical articles in journals including Psychotherapeutic Practice. An active international speaker at conferences including IPSO, IPA, APSA, and FEP, with works accepted at IPA conferences.

Karyn Todes

Dr Karyn Todes (PhD) is a Training Psychoanalyst and Clinical and Counselling Psychologist in private practice in Sydney, Australia. Born in South Africa, she completed a degree in Social Work, two Master’s degrees in Psychology, and a PhD before migrating to Australia, where she undertook training with the Australian Psychoanalytical Society and qualified as a psychoanalyst.

Dr Todes is a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), the Australian Psychoanalytical Society (APAS), and the Australian Psychological Society. She served on the IPA Climate Committee from 2020 to 2025 and currently serves as Co-Chair of the IPA Scientific Committee (SCIPA) for Asia Pacific Societies and New Groups, fostering dialogue and collaboration across the region while contributing to the development of contemporary psychoanalytic thought internationally.

Dr Todes has contributed chapters to psychoanalytic books, with interests spanning clinical practice, psychoanalytic theory, culture, and contemporary social issues. She is committed to exploring the relevance of psychoanalysis to the challenges of an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

Pushpa Misra

After doing her Master's both in Psychology and Philosophy. Dr.Musra did her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Rochester. NY. USA. She also did her Postdoctoral research as a Fulbright fellow in1993-1994 from the University of Pittsburgh, USA.
Dr. Misra worked in the Higher Education Department of the Government of West Bengal. India, and retired as a full professor and Principal of Bethune College. Kolkata.

Dr. Misra completed her training in Psychoanalysis from Indian Psychoanalytical.Society, affiliated to International.Psychoanalytical Association. She was a Trainee And Supervising Analyst and is the former President of Indian Psychoanalytical Society.

Dr. Misra's research has been published by Karan books, London, titled, "Scientific Status of Psychoanalysis:Evidence and Confirmation. She has a number of books, translations and articles published both in the area of philosophy and Psychoanalysis. Environment and Ecology are are favourite subject of research. Her paper, jointly authored with her student Jhelum Podder, titled Development, Ambivalence, Containment: Through the Himalayan Lens was awarded the first prize by the IPA Climate division. She is currently jointly working with Jhelum Podder on a book offer from Taylor and Francis titled Ecology and our Internal world: Exploring the Unconscious Bonds.
