Obra pioneira que analisa a destruição do meio ambiente sob uma perspectiva psicanalítica, investiga o que o autor define como o um impulso ou compulsividade de danificar o planeta, examinando os mecanismos psíquicos que levam os seres humanos a agredir seu ambiente de vida.
Aldo faleceu em 1948, combatendo um incêndio na propriedade de seu vizinho, logo após tornar-se conselheiro das Nações Unidas sobre conservação. Seu legado de preservação da vida selvagem é reafirmado em 1977, com a concessão da medalha John Burroughs de distinção no campo da história natural, homenagem recebida postumamente por seu trabalho e, em particular, por Almanaque de um condado arenoso.
Escritora, jornalista e documentarista, Eliane Brum faz um mergulho profundo nas múltiplas realidades da maior floresta tropical do planeta. Com quase 35 anos de experiência como repórter, há mais de vinte ela percorre diferentes Amazônias. Em 2017, adotou a floresta como casa ao se mudar de São Paulo para Altamira, epicentro de destruição e uma das mais violentas cidades do Brasil desde que a hidrelétrica de Belo Monte foi implantada.
